Hope Fully

Habakkuk 1:1-9, 12-13 & Ephesians 2:10

1. Hopefully Verses Hope Fully

Therefore, prepare your minds for action; be self-controlled; set your hope fully on the grace to be given you when Jesus Christ is revealed.

2. Habakkuk: He That Embraces; A Wrestler

a. God doesn’t seem fair…

How long, LORD, must I call for help, but you do not listen? Or cry out to you, “Violence!” but you do not save? 3 Why do you make me look at injustice? Why do you tolerate wrongdoing?

Habakkuk 1:2-3

b. God doesn’t seem just…

Why do you make me look at injustice? Why do you tolerate wrongdoing? Destruction and violence are before me; there is strife, and conflict abounds. 4 Therefore the law is paralyzed, and justice never prevails…

Habakkuk 1:3-4

3. God’s Response To Habakkuk

“Look at the nations and watch—and be utterly amazed. For I am going to do something in your days that you would not believe, even if you were told.”

Habakkuk 1:5

“I am raising up the Babylonians, that ruthless and impetuous people, who sweep across the whole earth to seize dwellings not their own.7 They are a feared and dreaded people…they all come intent on violence...”

Habakkuk 1:6-7, 9

a. Like Habakkuk, when a believer hopes fully, they can wrestle with honest questions and embrace a genuine faith in God.

LORD, are you not from everlasting? My God, my Holy One, you will never die. You, LORD, have appointed them to execute judgment; you, my Rock, have ordained them to punish. Your eyes are too pure to look on evil; you cannot tolerate wrongdoing. Why then do you tolerate the treacherous? Why are you silent while the wicked swallow up those more righteous than themselves?

b. What does God want to do in our lives while self-quarantined?

i. Quarantine is a period of isolation for the purpose of physical health.

ii. Silence and Solitude is a period of isolation for the purpose of spiritual health.

 Hear more clearly.

Before daybreak the next morning, Jesus got up and went out to an isolated place to pray.

Mark 1:35-37

 See more deeply.

Examine yourselves to see if your faith is genuine. Test yourselves. Surely you know that Jesus Christ is in you.

2 Corinthians 13:5

 Feel more truly.

But God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

Romans 5: 8

For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.

Ephesians 2:10

4. Conclusion: The self-quarantine of silence and solitude helps to heighten our spiritual senses and experience HOPE FULLY!
